Notes
Moderately differentiated adenocarcinoma of colon. There is glandular configuration, however, glands are irregular and very crowded. Many of them have lumens containing bluish mucin. Some large glands have necrotic debris. At high magnification, the neoplastic glands of adenocarcinoma have crowded nuclei with hyperchromasia and show pleomorphism. No normal goblet cells are seen in the areas of moderate differentiation.
Associated are also seen areas with well differentiated adenocarcinoma, forming glandular structures, without intervening stroma and with the presence of goblet cells.
The intervening stroma in moderately differentiated areas show presence of fibroblast like cells. Presence of histiocytes cannot be well established in these sections. Foci of inflammatory cells, mostly consisting of neutrophils; histiocytes and rare plasma cells are also noted.
