Notes
Neuroendocrine tumor NOS; The infiltrative tumor has a growth pattern in this section which is generally solid, with areas of small nests in the periphery of the tumor. The tumor cells are composed of generally larger (intermediate) cells with highly pleomorphic nuclei. Most nuclei are finely granular with hyperchormasia and small inconspicuous nucleoli. However, there are subset of nuclei with is hyperchromatic with vesicular chromatin pattern and prominent nucleoli. The tumor is highly proliferative with many mitotic figures. The tumor sections obtained from distant metastasis will show features described above.
